Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a Chinese treatment for soft tissue disorders and pain.

Traditional Gua Sha has been used to balance the body internally by applying it to the 3 Jiao’s (areas) along the meridian lines-upper, middle, or lower. It has been applied to target soft tissue pain and dysfunction by working through the 3 layers of subcutaneous fascia, superficial fascia, and deep fascia.

Applying a smooth edged tool to the skin during treatment, the skin becomes red and appears as petechiae (or red dots). It helps to restore circulation, flexibility, and range of motion, and can resolve adhesions and scar tissue. Similar to Graston’s technique, Gua Sha may help to release fascia and neighboring layers of soft tissue, restoring their ability to glide again. During treatment mild skin redness occurs because the technique stimulates capillary dilation. Immediate decrease in pain is often followed. Gua Sha improves flexibility in mature scars regardless of their age. Gua Sha is not appropriate in the acute phase of an injury; the client’s tolerance always dictates pressure.

Voodoo Floss

Voodoo floss was introduced to me by one of my clients, a high level CrossFit competitor. She was using it to help increase her range of motion. Once I saw the significant benefits of this tool in compressing and flushing an area with fresh blood, i.e. nutrients, I immediately implemented it into my arsenal. It has worked great on knee injuries post-surgery, as well as on shoulders, calves, feet, ankles, thighs, forearms and tendonitis. Voodoo floss can aid any joint that requires blood for healing.
